Seedlings grow up!

Friday, 16 October 2009

Do you remember a few weeks ago I posted an article called "Seedlings On the Cheap"?

And the photos were all of egg cartons. Filled with soil, nothing to see?

Take another look!

Lettuces - outside, and cruisin' for a bruisin'!

Lettuce, grown from seed

Pumpkin growing big and burly, and ready to face the elements!

Ummm...I think these are tomatoes. But I forgot to label them! Any ideas, readers?

Tomatoes...maybe?

Peggy gave these to me. I think they're marigolds.

Mystery flower. Maybe marigolds, but could be triffids

Gourmet lettuce mix, ready to face the elements.

Cucumbers, not quite out of their infancy.

That's the whole kitchen windowsill nursery. I'd have more if I could, but this is the only windowsill the kids can't reach.

More babies

I still find it miraculous that what was earth can become green leaf, fruit, bud and bower.

The living world is truly a miracle, don't you think!

Yep, tomatoes! Looking good! I found the growing from seed process quite fascinating seeing the changes the wee plants go through and how different they look in those early stages.

Definitely marigolds I'd say. I planted some bok choi but this morning there were holes all over....SLUGS! I threw them into the long grass and hope there aren't more in there!

They're definitely tomatoes. Having grown them two years running with lots of "bonus" tomato seedlings coming up months after my main plants got started, I'm well aware of what they look like that that stage. :)

What happy photos! I've been taking shots of my fall garden in between rain drops. I love egg cartons for starting seeds. I concur with the others on the tomatoes and marigolds. Are you going to plant them together?

Yep - living world is truly a miracle.

I'm equally in awe of my seedlings at the moment. I used to buy punnets - but am loving growing everything from seed. I'm loving having more than enough and sharing with friends.

P.S ignore that horrible number that is coming up as my user name - i'm having problems with it at the moment :-(
