A new Rubik's Cube for our toddler
Sunday, 11 October 2009
We just bought our daughter a new Rubik's Cube.
She lost her old one, and we've been really struggling with getting her to stay in bed ever since.
You'd think that a Rubik's Cube is a weird bedfellow for a 2 year old, but she loves it. Better yet, it meant that she would stay in bed, and we didn't have to deal with a toddler escaping, opening her bedroom window (in the middle of winter!), coming out every five minutes to say hello, and making her way into her brother's bedroom (and his bed!).
Now the new one has arrived, we're hoping it will keep her happy.
She lies in bed, twiddling the thing for ages, until she falls asleep.
And if she manages to solve it, yes, we'll be sure to sell the story for mega-bucks to the garbage magazines and Sixty Minutes!

Hey that's briliant! Not only the fact that she is interested in the cube, but the fact that you can keep her in bed ....! I struggle with my two up at 6am running in and out each others rooms ggrrrrr!
I'm old enough to remember the craze :) Loved my rubiks cube.
What a great idea. Who would have thought. Mine were always content with books in bed, but for someone little one who is especially active, this sounds like an excellent solution.
Hi Mountainwildlife, Leigh - Yeah, well, we thought that would do the trick, but she gave a Night From Hell last night, getting out of bed about 30 times!
So the baby gate is going on her bedroom doorway. We'll bar her in!
[evil]
But yes, she loves her Cube.
