My own 350.org action: planting 350 seeds of food plants!
Tuesday, 20 October 2009
My kids and I are planting 350 seeds of food plants on October 24.
In my garden, on my "nature strip" (which is just overgrown grass and never gets mowed by our landlady!), in pots, and in tubes to be given to members of our community and to families freely on Freecycle.
This is my stand as a Guerilla Gardener in training. *lol*
Here are my seeds, ready for action:
If you love this action, why not do the same in your own town, with your own family, and join me?
You can find our action registered online at 350.org by clicking here.

What a great idea! I trust you have plenty of helpers (and hopefully some very small seeds) Ouch- watch your back!
Awesome! I shall co-opt Dali as my tiny helper and see how many we can do :D
Hi Mountainwildlife - The thing that's surprising is, it isn't as much as you'd think. Not when you're dealing with tiny lettuce seeds, peas etc.
The hard work is in planting seedlings, potting and weeding, where you have to dig holes. In this case, all I have to do is stick in the end of a trowel to create a hole, stick the seed in, and cover.
My daughter (age 2) will very happily assist with the hole creation ;-) And the kids will water them all afterwards, and have a ball.
I think we'll be done within a couple of hours, but I'll be interested to find out!
Hi Octopusgrrl - That would be so cute!
Make sure you add your action to the 350.org website and mention it on twitter, using either 350.org or #350ppm as tags to get it picked up by the searches.
I'm just thinking - if every family who reads my blog thought this was a good idea, and did the same action, and then blogged/twittered about it, we could really add to the number of actions happening around the world.
Change sometimes starts with very small things :-)
Wonderful idea Daharja,
Even better I don't even have to break my moon planting habit to comply... Saturday is Leaf, Stem and Flowers.
Now I just need to work out where I am going to plant 350 sunflower seeds.
Kind Regards
Belinda
That is such a cool idea. I am struggling to come up with an idea, but we have the Melton Sustainable Living Group meeting on the 24th so we are going to do a group shot with a big 350 sign and post it to 350.org

Hi Belinda - That will be great if you plant as well. Along with Octopusgrrl, I think a few others will be doing it too, so we'll be planting a few thousand food plants.
When you think about it, growing and sharing food is one of the best ways to make a difference!
Hi Gavin - Like I said at your blog, I want to see photos of you with a chook under your arm with that poster! :-)
